LEGAL STORM IN PARADISE: MESSİ'S $12M IBIZA MANSION THREATENED BY VIOLATIONS

MIAMI, Florida — While Lionel Messi continues his successful North American chapter with Inter Miami, leading the MLS team in scoring and assists, a shadow is being cast over his personal affairs across the Atlantic. The Argentine legend is grappling with an unexpected and serious legal challenge involving his luxurious $12 million estate on the idyllic island of Ibiza, Spain.

The mansion, which Messi purchased in 2022, is now at the center of a municipal investigation over severe building and administrative infractions, with authorities not ruling out a demolition order.

Unauthorized Construction on Protected Land

The core of the problem stems from unauthorized construction activities on the property, which is located in Sant Josep de Sa Talaia, an area known for its strict environmental protection laws.

According to municipal reports, the house itself was constructed on protected land and never received a mandatory certificate of occupancy (or completion permit). Furthermore, investigators discovered that multiple renovations and extensions were carried out without the required licenses. These illegal additions reportedly include extensive earthworks and new rooms attached to the existing garage.

The local City Council has initiated legal proceedings for "serious violations," and the mayor has issued a decree to halt all further construction immediately. This move signals the severity of the situation, placing Messi's asset in jeopardy.

The Path to Regularization (or Demolition)

The current sanctioning process leaves Messi's legal team with two main objectives:

  1. Seek Regularization: They must obtain and validate the necessary permits for construction on protected territory. This involves proving safety and technical compliance for all built structures.

  2. Face Demolition: If the current structures cannot be retroactively legalized, the City Council could issue an order for partial or total demolition of the non-compliant sections.

Experts suggest that a partial demolition is the most probable outcome to force the property into urban conformity. However, no corrective work can begin until the local government officially approves a comprehensive project for legalization. This prolonged legal battle contrasts sharply with the tranquility Messi has found on the pitch in the United States.
